Research Impact: Evidencing the REF will explore case studies and testimonials tohelp universities effectively measure impact and offer practical guidance on delivering high quality submissions across disciplines and projects.
The Research Excellence Framework (REF) is the new system for assessing the quality of research in UK higher education institutions. Last year the research of one hundred and fifty four UK universities was assessed with thirty percent of submissions judged to be world-leading. The four UK higher education funding bodies allocate over £2 billion per year of research funding to universities, in 2015-16 the 2014 REF exercise will be informing the distribution of funds on the basis of quality and impact of research in all disciplines.
It is therefore essential for UK universities to ensure that REF submissions meet the highest standards of the assessment criteria. How can the quality of research outputs best demonstrate originality, significance and rigour? How can impact beyond academia be evidenced in terms of reach and significance? What are the best ways of developing a research strategy, support for staff and students, and delivering research infrastructures and collaborations?
